Brazilian Waxing - Pre and Post Tips

How long does my hair need to be?
First time Waxing appointments require at minimum 2-3 weeks of no shaving hair growth. Approximately 1/4 of an inch of hair is perfect. I never encourage longer than this as it will be more uncomfortable and may result is some breakage of hair.
If you have let it go longer, then you must trim prior to your appointment.

Before Wax ?
Exfoliate your skin the night before, this is a great way to remove excess dead skin.
Make sure you are clean, I know seems like common sense but NO, its not ok for you to come right after the gym. Yes, I said it. Wipes are always available at the studio if you need to freshen up.
Read the "am I going to break out" section also on OTC antihistamine (always check with your doctor first)

How often should I schedule my appointments?

New clients should not expect to be completely smooth on first appointment as hair grows in 3 different stages. It will take 3-4 appointments every 3-4 weeks to eventually get the longest and smoothest result. That being said, staying on a 3-4 week schedule will be result less painful waxing experience.

After Wax ?

No swimming, Hot Tubs, Exercise, Saunas or Sexual activity for the next 24 hours. This is to prevent bacterial and fungal infections from occurring.
Avoid direct sunlight for the next 24 hrs and protect your skin with an appropriate sunscreen after. Keep the area freshly wax clean and avoid touching the area.
2-3 days after your wax, start exfoliating to prevent ingrown hairs. 3 if its your very first wax.

Am I going to break out?
Bumps post hair removal are usually caused by a histamine reaction. This occurs because waxing removes hair from the root, thus creating trauma to the skin. Your body perceives this as a threat and the immune system sends histamine to the follicle. This results in bumpy sometimes pus filled white heads. This can be prevented by taking an OTC antihistamine like benadryl and hour before your appointment. (always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking anything)

Wax Contraindications?

Some medications are health conditions are contraindicated for waxing services. If on Accutane, Chemotherapy, Blood Thinners, Steroids, Acne Medications, currently on an antibiotic, Sun burned. Please email or call prior if you are not sure.

Vacation/Special Event -

Please never try anything new for the first time before going on vacation or special event. We can never guarantee anything in regards to a reaction regardless however, you should get a few waxing sessions under your belt to see how your skin handles waxing. It is also recommend you schedule your pre big day appointment 3-5 days before.
