Help for Teens Experiencing Acne
While some may consider the development of acne in the teen years to be a normal occurrence, that doesn’t make it an easy or desirable experience for the individual faced with it. There is hope! With the help of an experienced esthetician, you can get on the path to clear skin, no matter if you have a few blemishes, or are dealing with a severe case of acne. Getting on a customized, personalized skincare plan is key.
What Causes Teen Acne?
First, remember that you’re not alone. Eighty-five percent of teens experience some level of acne. Most often, it’s caused by an overproduction of oil due to hormonal shifts during puberty. The good news is that teen skin is resilient and teen skin cell turnover is more rapid. Looking for some tips to help that you can take on at home? Read on.
What Can Be Done at Home to Care for Acne?
Explore the Skin Solissful Skincare Products
Managing acne in teens mainly hinges on proper cleansing and reducing that oil produced. Acne usually rears its head between the ages of 11-14, with the onset of puberty. It may first show as clogged pores and blackheads forming in the t-zone. If you see this starting, make an appointment for a consultation to get ahead of things as soon as possible.
Cleansers for this age group could be gentle. And the skincare routine should be something simple that the individual can stick to consistently. Our gentle cleanser and silky cream cleanser are very good options.
A hydrating, alcohol-free toner with soothing properties after cleansing is perfect for removing remnants of the cleanser. Our hydrating toner is very popular for all our clients, teens, and adults.
Should I Still Moisturize?
The toner should be followed up with a moisturizer. Two moisturizers are important to the routine: one with sunscreen for daytime use, and one without for nighttime use.
For clients with oily skin, our Matte Tint is a great choice. However, SPF is a very personal experience, especially if you are not used to it. We carry quite a few options for this same reason. Acne-safe sunscreen is also very hard to find so sometimes you will need to try out a few before you find the one you love.
Spot treatments are a great option for someone experiencing blemishes at a young age, allowing them to just get treatment where needed. These should generally be suggested by a licensed professional once they have evaluated your skin type and the type of acne you are experiencing. Not all acne is the same and we should never assume it is all treated as such. Sometimes taking the matter into your own hands can be more harmful than helpful.
How Can I Treat Congested Skin?
For those experiencing a lot of congestion, your routine may be a little different, and it may need some additional exfoliation. Exfoliation can be very helpful but in many cases over usage and too much of it can harm your skin. See a licensed esthetician to get on a customized skincare routine.
More Severe Teen Cases
Acne often becomes more severe around the age of 15. Sebaceous glands are kicked into overdrive so limiting oil production is essential. This is also when chemical exfoliation may begin. A cleanser should have either exfoliating or oil-absorbing elements. And cleansing both morning and evening, as well as after breaking a sweat, is important.
A hydrating, oil-free toner with antibacterial properties to balance the skin is best to use after the cleanser.
Additional Help for Teens with Acne
Using a vitamin C serum under your sunscreen in the morning provides great antioxidant benefits to protect from UV damage. It can be beneficial for teenagers experiencing acne as it helps inhibit the pigmentation that causes lingering acne scars. Our bright c serum is a stable form of vitamin c and should be introduced if you have acne once you have been on a homecare routine for a bit. It would not be an initial product to add.
Salicylic acid (BHA) is an acid (chemical) exfoliant and a key ingredient to look for. It’s oil-soluble, meaning it can get inside the pores to clear them out and curb oil production. A salicylic acid serum works well for clearing congestion and eliminating superficial acne such as whiteheads, pustules, and papules.
Mandelic Acid (AHA) is another chemical exfoliant and is amazing for acne. It’s known for its great anti-bacterial properties, reduction of inflammation, and amazing for hyperpigmentation.
When someone overproduces oil, their instinct is often to use drying products and to skip moisturizing. This can create the opposite of the desired result, leaving skin dehydrated and flaky, and even oilier because your skin will try to make up for the dryness. Use a light, oil-free lotion or if you’re extremely oily, you can also try an oil-free gel moisturizer. Again, your morning product should absolutely include something with appropriate SPF.
Masks can be a great skincare addition for teens. A hydrating mask, can be beneficial when you are adjusting to actives that may dry you out initially or an antibacterial mask can be used any time breakouts flare and you are experiencing a lot of inflammation.
Good Habits to Practice That Help Prevent Teen Acne
Always Wash Your Face After Exercising. Cleanse your face any time you work out or sweat (in addition to morning and evening). Focus especially on cleansing areas where sweaty sports equipment rubs up against the skin. This will help prevent breakouts from forming in the first place.
Change Your Pillowcases. Do this often to keep from reintroducing oil and bacteria to the skin’s surface.
Treat Body Acne Too. Many teens develop acne on the body as well as the face. Learn how to manage body acne.
Avoid Bar Soap. Ingredients found in bar soap can be drying and surfactant-based which are sometimes very harsh. Generally making them high pH which will create dryness and irritation.
Don’t Pick! It’s sure to cause damage. Your best bet is to schedule a facial with a professional esthetician (like me). That picking may have taken you a second to dig at but it may take months to clear and worst. You may be spreading bacteria and SURPRISE, in a month or two you have a whole new cluster of breakouts that showed up to say…hey I am here LOL
Most importantly, don’t stress. Navigating acne can be confusing for teens and their parents. But rest assured, spending a little time and effort upfront to establish a consistent skincare routine will benefit you for a lifetime to come. Please reach out to schedule an in-person or virtual consultation. I can help!

TikTok Myths: Chlorophyll Gets Rid of Acne and Other Bad Skincare Advice
Chugging chlorophyll, slugging your face, DIY microneedling. STOP! Before you follow the skincare advice of influencers on TikTok, do some research. While this social platform is a lot of fun and does have some useful tips, it also has a lot of misinformation or misguided DIY suggestions. Let’s look at some TikTok Myths regarding skincare and the pursuit of healthy, youthful skin.
Can drinking chlorophyll get rid of my acne?
You’ve probably seen the TikTok influencers encouraging followers to consume chlorophyll to detox the body and get rid of acne. This is a myth.
Drinking chlorophyll-infused water to get rid of acne or improve your skin can worsen your skin condition. While chlorophyll is an antioxidant able to fight off free radicals, drinking chlorophyll water creates concentrated amounts in your body, which is unhealthy.
It can be destructive to your skin tissue and cause photosensitivity. The liquid chlorophyll can accumulate in the lining of the blood vessels of your skin, causing rashes, hyperpigmentation, or worse. Drinking chlorophyll may cause pseudoporphyria, unsightly, painful blistering of the skin, according to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Chlorophyll, however, can be beneficial for acne patients undergoing controlled, photodynamic therapy only. This should never be a DIY treatment.
Just eat leafy, green vegetables and get your chlorophyll naturally, in the right dosage.
Can Vaseline™ on my face at night help me look younger?
Slugging is when you slather petroleum jelly on your face at night to “seal in” your skincare products. Slugging reportedly is a popular K-beauty trend and it’s one TikTok fans love to perpetuate, claiming it helps give you younger-looking skin. We do not recommend slugging!
Slugging may cause acne and/or worsen acne. Skin occlusion, or applying an impermeable barrier over your pores, can set off outbreaks. For people who are prone to acne, slugging can exacerbate their skin condition. (Also, do you really want all that gunk on your pillow?)
Can I Do Microneedling at home to treat acne?
While microneedling can promote skin cell regeneration, which may help diminish hyperpigmentation and acne scars, it should not be done at home. Furthermore, you never want to microneedle skin that has active acne.
You are puncturing your skin and opening it to infection. Your home will not be a sterile environment. You should not have microneedling done unless you've first tried skincare products to treat these conditions. A Pure Skin Pro Organic CIT Facial Treatment mimics microneedling through a natural blend of unique plants combined to meet your unique skin needs and applied as a finely milled powder.
An organic CIT facial helps treat elastosis, pigment, scarring, acne, and signs of aging. This is an affordable alternative to microneedling which is done by a licensed esthetician. There’s no puncture in your skin and it’s all done using equipment and implements that are cleansed and sterilized with hospital-grade disinfectants or are made to be disposable.

Acne During Pregnancy
Acne and Pregnancy
Blissfully happy with a baby on the way but don’t love the acne popping up on your skin? Read on and we’ll explore just why you may be experiencing breakouts and how to best get a handle on them — and safely.
The WHY
There are two likely causes as to why you may be experiencing pregnancy acne. First, around your sixth week of conception your hormones dramatically increase, notably progesterone, which causes your glands to produce more oil secretions, leading to acne as pores are clogged with dead skin cells and bacteria builds. Second, your body is retaining increased fluids, which can reduces fewer toxins release that can result in breakouts.
Getting Clear
The good news is you don’t have to live with acne, even in pregnancy as there are safe and effective ways to treat it. That’s where we at Pure Skin Makeup & Skincare Studio comes in. Remember that the best way to treat acne is to not ignore your condition. We can help to evaluate your skin — even virtually — and recommend a treatment plan and customized products that are safe for pregnant women to use along the way. Our plan may even help to determine specific foods to add to your diet, or to pinpoint those you should avoid altogether. As trained esthetician I can help to determine what your acne triggers may be in an effort to reduce and ultimately eliminate them. Our goal is to help you and provide you with detail information to discuss and always approve with your doctor. We’ll also want to be sure you’re drinking plenty of water to flush the previously mentioned toxins from your system.
Clearing the skin of acne is not an overnight process, but when you’re armed with a customized treatment plan and you remain committed to the effort, it can absolutely be done and we’re positive you’ll be thrilled with the results.

How Often Should You Exfoliate Acne-Prone Skin?
Most people are aware exfoliation is an important part of a healthy skin care routine. But if you are dealing with acne, your skin care needs are different. You may be wondering: "How often should I exfoliate my acne-prone skin?"
Experts typically recommend exfoliating 2-3 times per week if your skin is prone to acne. Depending on the severity of your acne, you may need to reduce that to 1-2 times per week.
Each individual's skin has unique needs, so there's no simple answer. Read on to gain a clearer understanding of what your unique needs may be.
Can Exfoliating Cause Acne?
Typically, exfoliating does not cause acne. In fact, in most cases, exfoliating can help minimize acne when performed properly as part of an acne treatment program. Beware though, if exfoliating is done improperly or too often, it can bring on problems.
If you use a scrub, use as directed and be gentle. Scrubs can irritate your skin and compromised your skin barrier if abused or used incorrectly.
AHA's and BHA's are also good choices for exfoliation, They should be introduced initially 1-2 times a week or as directed by your acne specialist.
How Can I Tell If I'm Exfoliating Too Often?
While it may feel tempting to exfoliate frequently, too much exfoliation can cause problems. Here are a few indicators to look for that may indicate you are exfoliating your acne-prone skin too often:
Dry, flaky skin
Skin becomes more oily (to compensate for loss in natural oils)
Red, sensitive skin
Increase in pimples, especially small ones
What Is The Best Exfoliator For Acne-Prone Skin?
An exfoliating cleanser with benzoyl peroxide is often recommended for use when exfoliating skin that has acne, as long as the acne is not inflamed.
Benzoyl peroxide is a topical antibiotic that works by delivering oxygen to the areas of your skin where bacteria from acne are thriving, and since acne can't survive in an oxygen-rich environment, this essentially eliminates acne at its source. Applying this antibiotic, along with the manual action of gentle scrubbing and exfoliating, can work wonders in many individuals with acne-prone skin.
Another option is Exfoliating Mandelic Cleanser, Mandelic acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) and it provides antibacterial and antifungal benefits, making it ideal for treating inflamed acne.
However, since each person's skin has unique needs, we recommend consulting with an acne treatment specialist to help you decide what type and frequency of exfoliation would be best for your skin.

How Addressing Your Gut Can Help With Your Acne
Out of all the different skin conditions that affect people, acne is the most common. In fact, it’s almost certain that we will experience acne, in one or more of its forms, during the different phases of our lives. This pernicious skin condition has various different causes and presents a wide number of symptoms.
If you’re suffering from acne but have been unable to diagnose the underlying cause of it— even after trying multiple medications, treatments, and products— then the info in this blog might help explain what’s going on.
As improbable as it sounds, your gut (gastrointestinal tract) MIGHT be the reason for your acne. Yes… poor health conditions in the gut can result in chronic outbreaks of skin conditions like acne.
But! If your gut is healthy, that may be the missing key to having clear skin.
Let’s Talk About How The Gut Affects Your Skin And Causes Acne
A ton of scientific research has been done on the subject, establishing a solid link between nutritional deficiency, gut health, and acne. The condition of the human gut and skin health are closely related to one another. If you have an unhealthy gut, it can show on your face. Recurring skin issues may point to the existence of a gut problem. Too often we neglect this underlying reason, ignoring the possibility in favor of medications and products that treat the acne topically… but sometimes, the main cause of the acne IS the gut. An unhealthy gut can result in the manifestation of acne, eczema, rosacea, inflammation, and various other skin conditions.
Your gut microbiome hosts several viruses and bacteria that flourish in your intestines and invite skin issues. These bacteria and viruses can develop dysbiosis as a result of an imbalanced microbiome, and that condition can lead to skin problems like acne.
The main reason for dysbiosis is a leaky gut. A leaky gut allows larger infectious molecules to flow from the gut into the bloodstream, where your immune system contains the infection… but not before the infectious waste leftover from the process is shed through the pores, affecting the lining of the skin. That can cause unhealthy skin conditions. Literally, an infection from your gut will show on your face as acne.
Let’s Dive Deeper Into The Prevention Of A Leaky Gut And How You Can Prevent Acne By Addressing The Health Of Your Gut
If you want to get rid of skin conditions or acne, then pay heed to the health of your gut. Include friendly fibers in your diet. Engage your body in healthy exercise and protect your energy by de-stressing the body. You may need to take action to cleanse your gut, and take precautions to keep it clear.
Start by focusing on your diet. Balanced and super food items can help to heal your gut, almost as if by magic:
Eat Right. Add healthy food items like fiber, plant-based food, wholegrain, pulses, fruits, and green leafy vegetables like broccoli to your diet and cut out processed food items. Highly processed food can cause inflammation in the gut.
Refresh your biome. Prebiotics and probiotics can do wonders to improve the health of your gut. Food items like onions, radishes, oatmeal, garlic, and yogurt are super healthy items that can help to clear the gut and heal the skin.
Moving your body can also have a good impact on the health of the gut. Daily exercise improves the movement of the gut, supercharges the metabolism, and makes the gut feel relaxed.
Remove the food allergens from your diet. Notice which foods are worsening your acne and remove those food items to keep the gut and skin clear.
To clear out the gut, you need to drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is also a vital key to getting clear skin. When you’re properly hydrated, your increased water intake removes toxins from your body and thus clears out the gut and helps you to have healthy clear skin.
Focus on managing your circadian rhythm. An imbalanced sleep cycle can also damage your gut as well as the other organs that directly affect your skin. Practice a good sleep routine, minimize the use of screens before going to bed, and get enough sleep to strengthen gut cells.
Develop your ability to manage stress. Anxiety directly impacts your body’s digestion, and too much of it can lead to bad gut health. Stay calm and get clear skin by clearing out your gut.
Practice these tips and tricks and your gut health will rebound in no time. You can always clean your skin on the outside, but practicing a plan to maintain good gut health can enable you to clean your skin from the inside out, resulting in better overall health, heightened skin care, and the true expression of your inner beauty... in the form of unblemished skin and a clear face.
That’s where we at Pure Skin Makeup & Skincare Studio come in. We can help to evaluate your skin — even virtually — and recommend specific foods to add to your diet, or to pinpoint those you should avoid altogether. We’ll also want to be sure you’re drinking plenty of water to flush acne-causing toxins from your system.

How to Tell if Acne is Hormonal or Bacterial
Acne is the most common skin condition in the nation and can occur at any stage in life. While primarily impacting teens, the American Academy of Dermatology reports that acne is on the increase in adults.
When oil and dead skin cells clog your skin’s pores, it causes acne. Hormonal levels have a lot to do with acne, but sometimes the issue is compounded by bacterial concerns, presenting as blackheads, cyst-like lumps, or blockages in your hair follicles. You can tell if acne is hormonal or bacteria by its severity if flare-ups occur during hormonal imbalances, and whether topical treatments resolve the issues, or if systemic medications are needed.
Let’s break down how to tell if acne is hormonal or bacterial and look at treatment options.
Hormonal vs Bacterial Acne
While the initial cause of your acne is likely hormonal, clogged pores from oil and dead skin cells can become infected. This then becomes a bacterial issue.
When topical methods used to treat hormonal acne fail, it could mean you have bacterial acne. Moderate or severe bacterial acne may require oral antibiotics, provided by a board-certified dermatologist, to reduce infection, or birth control to reduce the overproduction of sebum.
However, an acne treatment program under the guidance of a licensed esthetician can effectively combat hormonal acne before it gets to the severe bacterial stage. While a monthly acne treatment can be very helpful for clients, receiving an acne treatment or clarifying acne treatment once a month or less will not clear your skin in the way a dedicated acne treatment program such as Pure Skin Pro can.
Hormonal Changes and Acne
Our bodies produce sebum, an oily substance that helps protect the surface of our skin. Sebum is mostly concentrated on our face, scalp, and chest because it travels through the ducts of our hair follicles.
But let’s not dive into the gross details of how oil travels up our hair shafts…
The bottom line is that sebum production will increase or decrease depending on hormonal fluctuations. So, a teen going through puberty may experience sebum overproduction, but this can also be blamed on a reaction to certain medications, an increase in stress levels, your menstrual cycle, increased exposure to UV rays, or your genetic history. Hormonal acne and bacterial acne can occur at any age.
The good news is that Pure Skin Pro can determine effective, customized acne treatments with options that best suit your skincare needs.
Your Acne Is Different
Everyone’s skin is unique. Acne, its causes, and its treatment are different for everyone.
Retinoid, AHA’s, BHA’s, azelaic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are some of the most effective products available to treat acne. While all these products can be found over the counter, their success in treating your acne will depend on their proper use and application and the current condition of your skin.
You will need a dedicated program with prescribed home care using products specific to the needs of your skin.
Face and body acne treatments may involve multiple electrical modalities, resurfacing solutions, and Organic Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and possible LED light therapy.

How To Treat Butt Acne: Booty Facials Can Clear Pimples on the Butt
Butt acne, even though it remains hidden from mostly everyone in your life, is still an embarrassing and concerning skin issue. So you, like many of my clients, might be wondering if the latest beauty treatment called “booty facials” can help treat pimples on the butt.
Yes! A booty facial, butt facial, fanny facial…whatever you want to give it, can help treat butt acne. There’s better news. Booty facials with Pure Skin Pro can also help with pigmentation or acne scars on your bum.
Before we explore what a booty facial includes, we should first get to the bottom of the issue (pun intended; wink).
Why Do I Have Butt Acne?
Clogged hair follicles can become infected with bacteria resulting in a skin condition called folliculitis. There are constantly bacteria on your skin. With proper, diligent care, it usually doesn’t become an issue. However, our bums are areas where bacteria have a better chance for growth and it’s an area sometimes forgotten in our daily skincare routines.
Tight clothing, sweat, chafing, and insufficient exfoliation and cleansing will exacerbate butt acne, which can cause unsightly bumps and pigmentation.
A skin condition called keratosis pilaris may appear as butt acne, but it’s just a buildup of protein. It can cause raised bumps, though, which seem like constant goosebumps or tiny pimples, which leave your skin feeling rough.
What Is a Butt Facial?
A Booty Facial, or butt facial, from Pure Skin Pro involves cleansing, exfoliation, extractions (if needed), treatment serums, and a mask.
It might sound contraindicative to exfoliate the skin with acne, but in most cases, exfoliating can help minimize acne when performed properly as part of an acne treatment program. (Read How Often Should You Exfoliate Acne-Prone Skin?) In fact, butt facials or quite similar to “regular” facials.
I use helpful topical antibiotics and cleansers during Booty Facial treatments to help prevent future outbreaks and unsightly pigmentation.
Can You Get Rid of Acne Scars on Your Butt?
Washing your buttocks at least twice a day can help prevent butt acne. For those who exercise regularly, it’s crucial to wash this area as soon as possible following a workout. Sweat from your daily yoga routine or weightlifting regimen provides the perfect environment for harmful bacteria.
It is possible to reduce acne scars and dark pigmentation on your buttocks. I recommend my Booty Facial, which treats skin issues like acne, dryness, and pigmentation.
If more extensive treatment is needed, it’s best to schedule an acne treatment consultation so that we can begin a dedicated program that goes beyond clarifying treatments and may entail LED light therapy to reduces scarring and hyperpigmentation while reducing inflammation.

UNDERSTANDING MENOPAUSAL AND PREMENOPAUSAL SKIN CHANGES
Menopause typically begins in a woman’s late 40s to early 50s, while premenopause can start as early as the mid-30s. During these periods, hormonal fluctuations, particularly the decrease in estrogen, can lead to several skin issues:
Dryness and Dehydration: Reduced estrogen levels can decrease oil production, leading to drier skin.
Increased Sensitivity: Hormonal changes can make the skin more susceptible to irritation and redness.
Loss of Elasticity and Firmness: The decline in collagen production can cause the skin to lose its firmness and develop wrinkles.
Changes in Pigmentation: Age spots and uneven skin tone can become more prominent.
TAILORED SKINCARE SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY NEED
At Pure Skin Makeup & Skincare Studio, we provide a range of treatments specifically designed to address these changes and promote a youthful, glowing complexion.

Chemical Peels: Despite the name, chemical peels use safe, skin-friendly acids like glycolic and lactic acid to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. They help to smooth out fine lines and improve skin texture.
3. SENSITIVE SKIN CARE
For those experiencing increased sensitivity, we offer gentle, soothing treatments designed to calm and protect the skin. Our sensitive skin facials use hypoallergenic products that reduce redness and irritation while strengthening the skin’s natural barrier.
4. CUSTOMIZED PIGMENTATION SOLUTIONS
For pigmentation concerns, we specialize in tailored skincare regimens and chemical peels. Our treatments are designed to specifically address dark spots and uneven skin tone, promoting a more balanced and radiant complexion.

Skin Cycling: The Truth Behind the Hype
Skin cycling is a trendy skincare method that recently appeared on social media and has certainly become an active topic of discussion. It’s a very popular beauty trend and has taken over Tik Tok, with over 3.5 billion views on the hashtag. Is it just another online fad, or is there a real method behind the online madness, and does it get results? Some skincare experts actually support and agree with it. But what is it, and how does it work?
I’ve recently received a lot of questions about it that begin, “Someone was talking about skin cycling on Tik Tok, have you heard of it? And what’s your opinion about skin cycling?”I’ll answer that question in this blog.
What is Skin Cycling?
Skin cycling is the name of a process that was originally coined by dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe in 2021, when she first shared her own “skin cycling” routine on social media. Essentially, that program consists of a 4-step, nightly regimen. That method labels those four nights as Exfoliating Night, Retinoid Night, and two successive Recovery Nights. On the fifth night, the cycle repeats.
What does a Skin Cycling regimen look like?
Evening 1, Exfoliation: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize
Evening 2, Retinoids: cleanse, retinoid/retinol, moisturize
Evening 3 & 4, Recovery: cleanse, moisturize
Cleanser/Moisturizer – KISS approach (keep it super simple). Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Should you need additional hydration, you can layer a hyaluronic acid serum in between cleansing and moisturizing, or opt for an occlusive moisturizer or moisturizing oil.
Exfoliation – I personally prefer chemical exfoliants vs physical exfoliants. I find that when doing their own exfoliation, most people are better off using creams or ointments because they are less likely to overdo it. Chemical exfoliants can vary, the most common being AHA’s and BHA’s.
I am also quite comfortable using our exfoliation pads (my experience is that one pad is all you need). But our serums (Mandelic, Salicylic) are really excellent. It’s really just a matter of preference. I always select what I think will work best, based on the client’s specific needs. That’s my golden rule.
These are our favorites:
Retinoid -To keep it simple, there are mainly 4 categories of retinoids: retinyl esters, retinol, retinaldehyde, and retinoic acid. You can choose one for yourself or better yet, directly receive one from our esthetician. These can take some getting used to, but I consider them to be the gold standard. It’s amazing, and trust me when I say: you will learn to love it.
If you’re wondering what you should do to start your morning, at the very minimum you’ll want to cleanse, moisturize, and protect your skin. If you want to up your game and add something more than just the basics, I would introduce an antioxidant like our Triple Radiance. For an extra boost of hydration, you can try our Ultimate Hydrating Serum
Why is it so popular?
What makes Skin Cycling so popular? It might be because it’s a catchy name that sounds authoritative, or it may be that people are starting to understand that where skin treatments are involved, we can overdo it. Our skin needs rest. “Particularly during the pandemic, people were adding layer after layer after layer onto their skin-care routines and experimenting with ingredient cocktails that were irritating and damaging their skin,” Dr. Bowe says.
But instead of just stacking more and more skin products atop one another, by spreading them out through the practice of “skin cycling,” we can let our skin recover between treatments, allowing any applied skin products the necessary time to work with one another in a more complementary manner.
How Long Should You Keep Doing It?
According to Dr. Bowe, you can essentially keep right on skin cycling continuously, though modifying your skin-cycle regime over time as needed. It all depends on how your skin responds to whatever “active” ingredients you are using, and the overall results.
In general, though, it’s always a good idea to remember that where skin care is concerned, consistency is always more important than frequency. Products tend to be more effective with regular use, even if you’re not using them on a daily basis.
What is My Opinion?
When I was first asked about skin cycling, I took the time to do some research and see for myself what it was all about. When I finally learned about it, I was honestly a bit underwhelmed by it. Maybe because I had assumed it must be something revolutionary and exciting that I had somehow missed out on.
But the truth is this: as licensed estheticians, most of us already practice some version of “skin cycling” with our clients. I suppose what differentiates us from online influencers and trendsetters is that we never bothered to give the practice a separate name. I just consider “skin cycling” to be the progressive introduction of ingredients to a client’s skin, with appropriate intervals allowing the treatment to take full effect. This process and the selection of treatments and products should ALWAYS be determined primarily by the client’s needs and skin care goals, their skin type, and any local effects caused by changes in climate and humidity, etc.
What You Need to Know
Skin cycling is really just a new name for a rather simple (and well-known) method of rotating one’s nighttime skincare products over a period of days to ensure optimal results while avoiding any undue irritation or unnecessary skin damage.
Skin cycling will work for every type of skin or complexion because it involves adjusting what products are used and how often they occur as part of a pre-planned skin care regimen.
My Advice
I have always been an advocate of treating clients progressively not aggressively. With so many different skin types and complexions out there, there’s really no such thing as a one-size-fits-all skin care solution, so in general, the idea of skin cycling makes sense as a starting point for skin care planning, or as a means of resetting and regulating one’s use of skin care products. If someone has been using a very extreme exfoliating regimen, it can be beneficial to back off such heavy usage by adopting a four-day regimen to prevent sensitive skin from becoming irritated or inflamed by overuse.
Is it for everyone? No, but it can provide a solid starting point. I would eventually customize this so that my clients receive all of the therapeutic benefits of the actives I select for them, which I can then increase/decrease, or switch, depending on what works best. Those decisions are always dependent on the client’s individual needs and goals, though.
But Skin Cycling, as described by Dr. Bowe, can definitely be a useful tool when crafting safe and beneficial long-term skin care regimens.
Menopause and the Skin Changes that Come with It
Ahh…menopause. What DOESN’T change for a woman while going through menopause? This may be how you feel, and changes in the condition of your skin may be just one symptom you’re experiencing. If you're experiencing skincare changes due to menopause, we can help!
Age Spots & Sun Damage
Now may be the time you start seeing the aftereffects of those hours spent in the sun, or in a tanning bed, during your teens and early 20s. Age spots and larger areas of darkened skin may appear on your face, hands, neck, arms, or chest.
Keep in mind, however, these could also be signs of skin cancer and pre-cancerous skin growths.
Be sure you are applying sunscreen daily before heading outside. It’s best to use at least a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Doing so can help to fade age spots and prevent new ones, too. More importantly, it reduces your risk of getting skin cancer.
You should also be scheduling annual exams with a dermatologist for skin cancer screenings. At your appointment, seek advice from your specialist on how often you should conduct self-exams and what to look for when doing so.
Dry Skin During and After Menopause
When you’re in the throes of menopause, your skin loses some of its ability to hold water, causing increasingly dry skin. To counter this, wash with a mild cleanser and ditch the soap, which can also be drying. Apply moisturizer after a bath or shower and throughout the day as your skin starts to feel dry. Products containing hyaluronic acid and glycerin are particularly good for women in perimenopause menopause stages.
If you need additional help, you may want to consider exfoliation or microdermabrasion, but consult with a skincare professional first. I customize corrective skincare treatments for my clients because I know each person is unique!
The Effects of Menopause on Facial Hair
When your hormone levels begin to drop, you may see an increase in unwanted facial hair, especially under your chin and along your jawline or above your lip. For this, facial waxing is one option. Another remedy for unwanted facial hair caused by menopause is laser hair removal by a trained professional.
Wrinkles and Sagging Skin
During menopause, your skin is losing collagen. As it diminishes, skin loses its firmness and begins to sag. Jowls can appear and wrinkles that once only showed when smiling and frowning are now ever-present. You may also start to see pouches under your eyes and larger pores due to a lack of firmness.
What can you do? Again, protect your skin from the sun, which can cause an increase in wrinkles. Skincare products containing retinol and peptides are also helpful. The ingredients work to increase collagen in your skin. Shop the Skin Solissful collection of moisturizers to find effective, professionally chosen products that can help reduce the appearance of aging skin.
Breakouts – Why Pimples at This Age?
You may, in one way, feel like you’re revisiting your teen years as menopause can bring on acne. Consult a professional on how to treat your skin. He or she may recommend washing with a cleanser containing salicylic acid to help unclog pores.
You may also experience rashes or easily irritated skin. As you near the age of 50, the skin’s pH begins to change. This can cause it to become more sensitive and worsen conditions like eczema and rosacea. If you are experiencing similar changes in your skin, be sure to use a fragrance-free moisturizer to reduce irritation.

Ingrown Hair? Help for Down There
Special Care for “Down There”
One of the most common questions I get asked is how to take care of, and maintain, the delicate skin "down there.” You know what I mean. I always tell people, “start with our recommended kit to start with and depending on what your issues are, we can add some more targeted products or services”
Some women suffer from ingrown hairs, for example, and no matter what, shaving is so painful that they actually prefer waxing because it's so much better for them than shaving. With ingrown hairs, there also come some pigmentation issues; therefore, I would suggest a product to work to help with exfoliation and also pigmentation at the same time.
Other in studio services include our ingrown hair treatments aka in the industry as vajacials. This is basically a facial designed to cleanse, exfoliate, remove ingrown, mask, and treat the skin with pigmentation/soothing serums. These are recommended a week after your brazilian wax. In cases where clients have more severe ingrown you may be recommended “ingrown hair treatment” every 2 weeks for about 2-3 months.
You may not get ingrowns, but as I say: skin is skin no matter if it’s in our arm, leg, face or down there. We shed dead skin cells every single day, some of us more than others. Gentle exfoliation and moisturizing are important to keep the skin healthy and smooth.
Have a great day!
Brazilian Waxing - Pre and Post Tips
How long does my hair need to be?First time Waxing appointments require at minimum 2-3 weeks of no shaving hair growth. Approximately 1/4 of an inch of hair is perfect. I never encourage longer than this as it will be more uncomfortable and may result is some breakage of hair.If you have let it go longer, then you must trim prior to your appointment.
Before Wax ?Exfoliate your skin the night before, this is a great way to remove excess dead skin.Make sure you are clean, I know seems like common sense but NO, its not ok for you to come right after the gym. Yes, I said it. Wipes are always available at the studio if you need to freshen up.Read the "am I going to break out" section also on OTC antihistamine (always check with your doctor first)
How often should I schedule my appointments?
New clients should not expect to be completely smooth on first appointment as hair grows in 3 different stages. It will take 3-4 appointments every 3-4 weeks to eventually get the longest and smoothest result. That being said, staying on a 3-4 week schedule will be result less painful waxing experience.
After Wax ?
No swimming, Hot Tubs, Exercise, Saunas or Sexual activity for the next 24 hours. This is to prevent bacterial and fungal infections from occurring.Avoid direct sunlight for the next 24 hrs and protect your skin with an appropriate sunscreen after. Keep the area freshly wax clean and avoid touching the area.2-3 days after your wax, start exfoliating to prevent ingrown hairs. 3 if its your very first wax.
Am I going to break out?Bumps post hair removal are usually caused by a histamine reaction. This occurs because waxing removes hair from the root, thus creating trauma to the skin. Your body perceives this as a threat and the immune system sends histamine to the follicle. This results in bumpy sometimes pus filled white heads. This can be prevented by taking an OTC antihistamine like benadryl and hour before your appointment. (always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking anything)
Wax Contraindications?
Some medications are health conditions are contraindicated for waxing services. If on Accutane, Chemotherapy, Blood Thinners, Steroids, Acne Medications, currently on an antibiotic, Sun burned. Please email or call prior if you are not sure.
Vacation/Special Event -
Please never try anything new for the first time before going on vacation or special event. We can never guarantee anything in regards to a reaction regardless however, you should get a few waxing sessions under your belt to see how your skin handles waxing. It is also recommend you schedule your pre big day appointment 3-5 days before.
What the heck is a Vajacial, Vagacial or Brazilian Treatment?
WTH, I bet that was your first reaction, what the heck is that? A Vajacial, or Vagacial, or who knows how or what you call it or spell it. LOL
Well I am a licensed esthetician and I have seen them spelled both ways. I call mine Brazilian Treatment. I am sure you will bump into other creative ways of calling this service if you really care to look around.
Anyway, I am here just to give you a quick and to the point explanation. A Vagacial, Vajacial or for the remainder of this post, I will call it brazilian treatment is a treatment kind of like a mini facial for your private parts. Specifically the bikini line and the mons pubis. No we don't really touch your vagina people, but hey the name does kind of insinuate or create some confusion but let's keep it clear.
If you are reading this you are either curious or you legitimately suffer from ingrown hairs and want to know how this may or may not work for you.
If you shave, sugar or wax, you may suffer from ingrown hairs, or you may just be so very lucky and never get one, but for those who do, this is a treatment that can offer some help.
The basics of the treatment is to cleanse, exfoliate, extractions of ingrown hairs, mask and then moisturize. In some instances steam may be used through the cleansing or exfoliating process.
What are the benefits to this? Well simple, it helps minimize ingrown hair, keeps the area nicely exfoliated and smooth. Maybe you can't do your on extractions of ingrown hairs well, or you just don't know how.
When should you do this? Typically you would want to do this 10 days after you wax if you shave, you can probably do this 5 days after since when you shave you usually have hair within a few days.
How often should you do this service? That is entirely up to you, You don't need to do it every time you wax unless you feel it helps or you don't want to do it. You may just need a few treatments and then your esthetician can offer you the right products to maintain and do at home.
In closing here, I hope this was helpful and I will say, This is definitely not a service for the shy person, because no matter what you will be somewhat exposed. It is what it is. The good part is that generally it only takes 20 minutes, but I am sure different places may extend it, but generally 20 minutes.
Below is a little description on what I have as a description for this service.
Do you suffer from ingrown hairs? Ingrown hairs are a common problem when it comes to hair removal, whether you wax or shave and can result in mild to severe skin infections, including acne. This treatment is intended specifically for the intimate areas, exactly the bikini line and the pubic bone area (mons pubis).
The treatment includes cleansing, manual exfoliation, careful extractions of ingrown hairs, a special mud mask that which draws out any impurities and ingrown hair from under the skin and ends with a soothing moisturizer.
This treatment is suggested 10-14 days after waxing or shaving.
Hope it helped!

How To Prevent Ingrown Hair After Waxing (This Works Every Time!)
The dreaded ingrown hair dilemma: We’ve all been there, and we’ve all suffered from the pain that comes along with it. The pain I speak of is one that is hard to forget.
This is the pain that keeps us from wearing our favorite jeans, leggings, or any tight-fitting pants because it becomes so unbearable. Well, my dear friends, I have some solutions and preventative methods for you to try.
In a nutshell, here's how to prevent ingrown hair after waxing:
Wear loose-fitting clothing for several days before waxing. Take only cold showers and avoid perfumed products for the first few days after waxing. Several days after waxing, gentle exfoliation can help significantly.
Make sure you understand these important steps before your waxing session begins! Keep reading to get the full scoop.
Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing To Your Appointment
First and foremost, one of the most important things to remember is to wear loose-fitting clothing to your waxing appointment, as well as for about one to two days after.
Tight-fitting clothing will cause unwanted friction and irritation. The loose clothing will give your skin a chance to breathe and heal without any firm pressure.
Schedule Your Next Waxing Session Now
Avoid Hot Showers & Perfumed Products After Waxing
Please take care to avoid hot showers or baths for a few days after your waxing appointment. Cool water and cool compresses will help to soothe the area and reduce skin irritation and sensitivity.
Avoid any perfumed products such as lotions or creams. These will irritate your skin and most likely sting. Instead, please use a serum or lotion that is safe for use after waxing.
For the first 24 hours avoid any excessive activity or exercises. Perspiration can irritate the freshly waxed area.
Exfoliate Gently After 72 Hours
Another very important step to prevent ingrown hair after waxing is to exfoliate the area that is waxed. Gentle exfoliation will help to remove dead skin and it will also give the hair a clear path to grow back.
You may use a physical exfoliator like a scrub, dry brushing, or chemical exfoliator like our PFB Roll-On Gel.
Buy PFB Roll-On
Do not over-exfoliate. You don’t want to irritate the skin and strip it of its natural moisture and healthy bacteria. Exfoliating about twice a week should help to keep any ingrown hair at bay. If you are prone to ingrown hairs and wear a lot of tight clothing or activewear, you may need to exfoliate more frequently to prevent ingrown hair after waxing. Please wait 48-72 hours after waxing before beginning your exfoliation regimen.
Get A Vagacial After 1 Week
The vajacial is designed to cleanse, exfoliate, mask, remove any ingrown hair present, and soothe any irritation or redness. In most cases, a vajacial treatment is suggested the week after your Brazilian wax to help prevent any ingrown hair.
The word “vajacial” is a simpler way of saying a facial for your bikini line and pubic mound area. This treatment is great for those who suffer from chronic ingrown hair.
Learn more about vajacial body waxing treatments.
Stay Hydrated
Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water daily will help to keep your skin soft, supple, and moisturized.
Secondly, use a serum to further lock in that moisture. Hydrated skin is healthy skin. I have several helpful pre-waxing and post-waxing products online to help ensure your comfort.
Do Not Pick, Pluck, Or Scratch The Waxed Skin
Lastly, never ever, under any circumstances, pick, pluck, or scratch at any bumps or redness that develops. This increases your chances of developing an infection.
So there you have it! If you follow my guidance above on how to prevent ingrown hair after waxing, you'll avoid a lot of frustration and pain! Keep in mind, many of these tips and tricks are great when it comes to any area of waxing, whether it is underarms, legs, arms, or buttocks, etc. I hope these tips and tricks help. Stay smooth, my friends!

How Long Should Pubic Hair Be Before Waxing?
Waxing the pubic area has become a very common service in the hair removal business. Women and men prefer the look and feel of being hair-free. To most, it’s a confidence boost, hygienic, and, for some, it’s the only option for hair removal as shaving irritates and causes issues with ingrown hairs. Waxing when done correctly and with the appropriate aftercare can help prevent ingrown hair and painful infections.
You want the hairs a certain length, however, to get the best result. How long should pubic hair be before waxing? Your hair should be ¼ inch long or 6.35 mm for optimal waxing. First-time waxing appointments require 2-3 weeks of hair growth for optimal bikini wax results.
Read on to learn how you can best prepare for a bikini or Brazilian waxing and continue to maintain a well-maintained bikini line.
Is it OK to Wax off Pubic Hairs at Home?
Professional waxing is best. I’ve heard horror stories from women who have gone to what they thought was a reputable waxing place (or by trying to wax at home), only to have suffered burns to their skin, horrible experiences that have scared them from ever trying the service or infections from bad or no post-wax information. Discomfort or infection in that part of your body can be embarrassing in the least or worse: debilitating!
I have decades of experience in specialty waxing services. A gentle bikini waxing treatment by Pure Skin Makeup & Skincare Studio will successfully and safely remove hair at the panty line and top of the bikini area.
If you’re a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician seeking professional waxing classes, I offer in-person training in waxing services in Reading, Lancaster, West Chester, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas.
Can My Hair Be Too Long for Waxing?
Yes. If your hair is more than a half-inch long, you should consider shaving it and “starting over.” Then schedule an appointment so that it lands about one full growth cycle out. That is, give the hair 1 to 4 weeks to regrow to about ¼ inch. In most cases, 3 weeks is usually long enough. The longer the hair, the more uncomfortable and the more likely there will be some breakage.
I’m happy to discuss the timing of your waxing service and answer any questions you have regarding waxing services in sensitive areas.
What Should I Do to Prepare for the Wax Service?
If you typically get red, bumpy skin after shaving your pubic area, consider taking an antihistamine an hour prior to your waxing service. Of course, check with your primary care physician before taking any medications.
You also should exfoliate your skin prior to your appointment. You can find other tips for pre-bikini waxing here. I suggest you wear loose-fitting clothing.

What Takes Place During a Bikini, G-String, or Brazi?
Your waxing will take place in a clean, private studio.
Always shower or bathe beforehand. You’ll also be given an anti-bacterial, cleansing wipe at the studio. Your esthetician will keep you properly covered throughout the wax service and instruct you along the way. You may need to move your legs to better accommodate the wax placement and removal, especially if you’ve opted for Brazilian waxing. But you will be guided, so there’s no need to feel apprehensive.
You’ll likely find the inner-most areas of the pubic area the most sensitive, although it won’t be terrible. The entire process is quite bearable, and any pain will quickly disappear.
What Soothes the Pubic Area After Waxing?
Cool compresses can reduce any irritation post-wax. Continue to wear loose-fitting clothing the day of your wax service and avoid perfumes and over-the-counter creams in the pubic area.
I recommended all new clients purchase an at-home care kit for post-waxing maintenance.
Shop Post-Waxing Products
How Often Should I Get a Wax Job?
For best results, see your esthetician every 3 to 4 weeks for waxing. Regular waxing will give you consistent results that leave your bikini line smooth. It will also help you avoid hair follicles that may otherwise become ingrown and painful.

Why Does My Makeup Look Dry? Top Reasons and How to Prevent It
You want to achieve a natural, smooth appearance throughout the day. Just when you think you’ve mastered your makeup, because you looked great when you left the mirror this morning, you realize your full glam is creasing! It’s now mid-afternoon and you’re left wondering, “Why does my makeup look dry?”
The main reason your makeup looks dry is that the underlying skin is dry, and your foundation lacks adequate moisturizer. It can also be caused by skin conditions like rosacea, eczema, or even an allergic reaction to your makeup.
As a professional makeup artist and licensed esthetician, I know the importance of looking your best and my cosmetics make it easy to achieve a flawless, healthy look that highlights your best features.
Let’s explore some of the top reasons your makeup starts flaking later in the day, see which powders and creams work best to prevent your skin from looking dry, and learn some mistakes to avoid so your makeup stays smooth all day.
Why Does My Skin Look Dry with Makeup On?
Knowing your skin type is very important when it comes to choosing your best makeup, especially face makeup. Your esthetician can help you learn your skin type and suggest makeup that best suits your type of skin. Typically, skin types fall under Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination, or Sensitive.
SHOP NOW
While you’ll want a foundation and a concealer that have moisturizers in them, you’ll want to find products that work best with your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend you use a light spray primer with moisturizer. Always test a new product beforehand, on your hand or area other than your face, and watch for any adverse skin reaction.
All skin types need sunscreen daily, even in winter. UV rays from the sun can cause skin damage year-round and lead to wrinkles and dark spots. (Read 5 main reasons why SPF needs to be part of your daily makeup routine.)
Apply a moisturizer, preferably one with Vitamin C Serum, to your neck and face every day. Also, be sure you’re not causing further damage when you remove your makeup.
Using makeup removal products that strip away the healthy sebum from your skin will worsen the issue. Avoid makeup removers that have formaldehyde, alcohol, and fragrances, and make sure you rinse your skin with water after you’ve used a makeup removal product. If you have oily skin, find a makeup remover that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. If you have dry skin, use a creamy makeup remover.

Consider mixing setting spray into your foundation and into your concealer.
An especially challenging spot to avoid makeup failure is where wrinkles appear or where it’s most difficult for makeup to adhere, such as near lips and eyes.
For lips, I recommend using a gel lip liner to help you avoid feathering. Combine the lip liner with creamy lipstick and coat with a hydrating lip gloss. Moisturizing lip products will help prevent that dry, feathering look around your mouth.
To prevent eye makeup from creasing, use a setting powder or light concealer prior to applying your shadow or liner.
Do you have makeup products that are best suited for your individual beauty? Let's work together to see what works, and what can be improved. I can provide a makeup bag makeover to recommend products to add to your makeup bag that suit your specific needs and makeup goals.
How Can I Keep Makeup From Flaking?
Healthy skin and good makeup choices are the secrets to makeup that never appears flaky and lasts throughout the day.
To achieve healthy skin, I recommend you moisturize daily, use SPF daily, and exfoliate 1-2 times each week (more often if your skin is prone to acne).
Corrective facial treatment may help remediate existing skin conditions that contribute to makeup failure.

TEEN MAKEUP LESSONS
When Do Teens Start to Wear Makeup?
The average age when teens start to wear makeup is hard to define because I know they explore makeup before their teen years. So, their use of makeup kind of comes in different stages. From early exploration (“playing” with mom’s makeup supplies) to purchasing their first mascara and using it regularly.
It’s likely ages 12-15 when makeup use becomes a part of a teen’s daily routine.
Teen Makeup Suggestions
The biggest mistake teens do when it comes to makeup is using a heavy hand while applying it. That is, less is more. If you use too much, you’ll end up looking artificial. A natural-looking makeup application enhances your beauty instead of overpowering it. Start with a few items first.
Eyeshadow
Lip gloss
Mascara
Clear eyebrow gel
Correct and Conceal Teen Acne with Makeup
Many teens have no need for concealer. But, if you have freckles, under-eye darkness (this may be genetics or lack of rest) or acne, it’s OK to use them.
Buy Matte Tint SPF 40
Just make sure you’re using the right kind of concealer. Generally, you want to go with a corrector if you are trying to correct lessen under-eye discoloration first, when trying to spot correct for acne you want to go with something your skin color. Choosing too light of a concealer will just emphasize what you are trying to cover.
If you are trying to cover acne, be careful sometimes you will make acne worse by using pore-clogging cosmetics and then not properly cleansing and removing your makeup.
Freckles are cute but they are basically sun damage, protect your skin now so in the future you don’t have to deal with the not-so-cute bigger sunspots that started as a small freckle. Our matte tint SPF is one of the best makeup products for teens with oily skin. While teens don’t often think about SPF as part of their skincare routine, it really is an important part of having great skin (for life!)
Proper cleansing is crucial to correct and help prevent teen acne. The gentle cleanser and silky cream cleanser are two products especially effective for clients under age 18. You should follow up with a hydrating toner, moisturizer, and SPF. (SPF is not needed in the evening) When you start wearing makeup, you will want to do a double cleanse as one cleanse is usually not enough to remove makeup. Try our cleansing balm, it’s a great first cleanse gentle, and great at removing eye and mascara makeup.
You may want to lightly powder the T zone occasionally throughout the day if you have especially oily skin or carry some blotting sheets.
Read Help For Teens Experiencing Acne for other good habits you should practice helping prevent teen acne.
Everyday Natural Teen Beauty Tips
It’s always best to start out “little” and add to the makeup as you get used to applying it. Remember, you don’t want to overdo it and if you are gravitating to make-up because you are trying to cover acne, it's best to start with skincare. A healthy canvas should always be your first step, that way when you do apply makeup it looks natural and you don’t need as much makeup.
Makeup should be fun!

What Does Vitamin C Serum Do for Your Skin?
People use vitamin C serum to treat skin imperfections and skin damage. Combined with other skincare products and professional skin care treatments, vitamin C serum can help your skin in many ways. Keep reading to learn about its effectiveness and the potential risks of vitamin C serum.
What is Vitamin C Serum Anyway?
Pro Aging Skincare Kit with vitamin C serum
Vitamin C serum is a topical skincare product typically in liquid or gel form. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that impedes the formation of free radicals. Free radicals can break down collagen and elastin, which are two proteins that help skin keep its elasticity.
Our Bright C Serum is made with magnesium ascorbic phosphate, an effective and very stable form of vitamin C. We also offer a complete anti-aging skin care kit, which includes our anti-aging serum.
How Does Vitamin C Serum Help with Acne?
Vitamin C serums may help reduce hyperpigmentation and acne inflammation. Pure Skin Pro’s vitamin C serum contains helpful antioxidants to help heal acne scarring and it is also noncomedogenic (it won’t clog pores). Vitamin c serum can also reduce redness that often accompanies acne.
For the most effective and affordable acne treatment, schedule a consultation with a license esthetician near you to set up a customized acne-reduction and maintenance plan. I have more than a decade of success specializing in acne and skin rejuvenating treatments at my studio in Reading, PA. Contact Pure Skin Pro to get started if you are interested in our virtual acne program!
How Does Vitamin C Serum Help with Wrinkles?
Vitamin C is an excellent antioxidant. It improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness and brightens your skin’s complexion. Our vitamin C serum also protects your skin from sun damage, which can hasten the signs of aging. Vitamin C serums can’t replace your SPF, though, so please continue to use sunscreen (Read: 5 reasons Why You Need to Make SPF Part of Your Daily Routine)
Can I Use Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C Together?
Ultimate Hydrating Serum
You can use hyaluronic acid, which helps to keep skin feeling hydrated, and vitamin C together. Hyaluronic Acid is a great humectant and is best layered with a complementing moisturizer depending on the skin type. Just keep in mind not all hyaluronic acid is created equal and many over-the-counter hyaluronic acid products are made of molecules too large for the skin to absorb. If you are looking to add a hyaluronic acid, try our Ultimate Hydrating Serum. Also, some products can have an adverse effect on your skin, such as an allergic reaction or pore-clogging. Those with acne should only use products tested on a small area of the skin. Ideally, you should consult a licensed esthetician before using hyaluronic acid or vitamin c. You may not need both initially or may need one vs the other.
How Often Should I Use Vitamin C Serum?
You can use our vitamin C serum twice daily or as suggested by your licensed professional. When trying a new product, however, use it more sparingly to monitor your skin’s reaction in case of sensitivities. Though not typical, it can happen.
How Long Does Vitamin C Serum Take to Work?
You will likely notice skin improvement 4-12 weeks after starting routine use of vitamin C serum. Ready to explore vitamin C serum? I’m ready to get to know you and learn of your needs. Let’s get started on your journey to better skin!

5 Reasons Why You Need to Make SPF Part of Your Daily Routine
Cancer from being outside? You may think, “Nah, not me,” (especially if you’re in your younger years) but if you’re not diligent with applying your sunscreen daily, the chance of the sun’s exposure causing skin cancer is absolutely there.
The sun’s UVA and UVB rays impact your skin’s health. With spring here and summer on the way, SPF may be more top of mind, but a proper sunscreen product is something you should apply every day to prevent skin cancer and premature aging – two things no one wants.
Let’s look at 5 reasons you should include an SPF application in your daily routine, year-round. With the proper SPF sunscreen and healthy skin habits, you can stay protected.
Everyday Benefits of Using SPF
Rain, clouds, snow – regardless of the weather outside, you’re exposed to UV radiation daily. You could even be at risk if you’re indoors and positioned close to a window. Let SPF protect you! Wearing it provides you with the following benefits:
Aids your complexion. Putting sunscreen on each day helps to even your complexion as sun damage is one of the top causes of an uneven skin tone.
Sun protection. As mentioned previously, one of the most important benefits of SPF is its protective properties against the sun’s harmful rays. Even a mild sunburn can cause harmful damage to your skin. The results of that may not come into play until years – or decades – down the road.
Prevents premature aging. No sane person wishes for wrinkles. Keep them at bay when you apply sunscreen each day. Excess exposure to the sun’s rays is the perfect formula to prevent fine lines and deeper creases.
Say NO to cancer. By not wearing sunscreen, you’re putting yourself at a real risk of developing melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer that can be life-threatening. This is especially the case for women in their 20s. It’s also important to say “no” to tanning beds. Don’t fall for the falsehood that developing a “base tan” is equally protective. It’s not.
Smooth skin. Sunscreen protects your skin’s properties like keratin, the protein that helps to keep it smooth and healthy.
What’s a Good SPF for Daily Use?
As a professional esthetician, I can tell you there is no one SPF that is good for everyone. Also, the amount you should use is not standard. It can vary depending on the brand, the type, and most importantly, on YOU. Each person’s skin is unique.
For example, Pure Skin Pro has options for acne-prone clients, like all other stuff out there, sunscreen can be problematic for them. We also have SPF for dry skin, oily skin, and SPF that’s tinted.

Do My Kids Need SPF Daily?
Yes! One of my biggest concerns this time of year is the number of kids, active and back to sports, who continuously get sunburned and skin damaged. By the time these kids hit age 30, they’ll be battling wrinkles or worse! Parents add sunscreen once and forget about it, yet these kids are outside in the fields for hours and hours. Experts suggest reapplying a product with a sun protection factor every 2 hours, and if your child is active (sweating), the SPF may need to be applied even more often.
How Much SPF Do I Need Daily for Anti-aging?
The amount of SPF needed to provide anti-aging benefits depends on how much you’re exposed to the sun’s harmful rays each day. Research has found that an application of moisturizer with SPF 30, used daily, results in marked improvement in the skin’s appearance overall (not just on facial surfaces) and decreases the occurrence of skin pigmentation.
